The band you need: Speaking 7.0 = CLB 9
For Canada Express Entry, CLB 9 requires IELTS Speaking 7.0. This is the band where most test-takers stall: reading and writing often hit 7.0 first, while speaking sits at 6.5. One stuck skill drags your overall CLB to the minimum — a 6.5 in speaking while everything else is 7.0 still gives you CLB 8 overall.
Speaking 7.0 is not about accent or "native" fluency. Examiners score four published criteria, equally weighted. Knowing what each one rewards is the whole game.
