Practise speakingWhy CLB 9 is the real target
CLB 7 is the legal minimum for Express Entry. CLB 9 is what earns competitive CRS points — the difference between a profile and an invitation.
| Level | IELTS equivalent | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| CLB 7 | 6.0 in each skill | The legal minimum — eligible, but rarely invited |
| CLB 9 | Listening 8.0 · Reading 7.0 · Writing 7.0 · Speaking 7.0 | What actually earns competitive Express Entry points |
Our feedback is tuned to close the gap between these two rows — one criterion at a time.

Frequently asked questions
Straight answers, no fine print.
Is the score official?
No. Every score on this site is clearly labeled an estimate — not an official IELTS score. Our AI scores your speaking and writing against plain-language versions of the public IELTS band descriptors to give you targeted practice feedback. Only the British Council, IDP, or Cambridge can issue an official score through a real test.
Do I need an API key?
No. The free tier runs fully in your browser: audio transcription uses your browser's built-in speech recognition (Chrome/Edge) and nothing needs a signup. AI scoring is already switched on — the site scores your responses with a free API key on our side, and every score is labeled an estimate, not an official score.
Which IELTS does this cover?
This site focuses on IELTS General Training — the version used for Canadian immigration (Express Entry, PNP, and similar programs). If you're applying for study, check whether your institution needs Academic instead.
What happens to my audio and essays?
Your audio is processed only to generate your transcript and score, and is not kept for any other purpose. Essays are sent to the scoring API solely to produce your feedback. We don't build profiles, sell data, or run ads.
Why is CLB 9 the target instead of CLB 7?
CLB 7 (6.0 in each skill) is the legal minimum for Express Entry, but minimums don't get invited. CLB 9 — Listening 8.0 and Reading, Writing, Speaking 7.0 — earns substantially more CRS points, which is what actually moves your profile above the cutoff. That's why our feedback is tuned to push you from CLB 7 to CLB 9.
Will this guarantee my band score?
No — and be wary of any site that promises guaranteed bands. Real score improvement comes from deliberate practice on your weak criteria. We show you exactly which criteria are holding you back and what to fix, one practice loop at a time.
